Meet the Staff - Tona Eckley

Meet St. Matthew’s Thursday and Friday Receptionist, Tona Eckley. Tona and her husband, Chuck, joined St. Matthew 12 years ago. Tona is originally from Arkansas, which you’ll pick up on right away when talking to her. Her charming drawl proves that you can take the woman out of the South but you can’t take the South out of the woman!

A few years ago, Tona retired from her position of Assistant Vice President and Loan Representative Call Center Supervisor at Regions Bank. After retirement, Tona began serving as an office volunteer at St. Matthew. She was called upon to fill in when we needed extra help. About three and a half years ago, she joined the staff serving as receptionist on Thursdays and Fridays.

As the receptionist, Tona performs a lot of different tasks for the church. She answers the phone, checks the local hospitals to see if any of our members are patients, takes prayer requests, sells concert tickets, mails the weekly bulletin and prayer lists to those who cannot make it to church, takes payment for and helps organize the apartment rental payments, prepares the weekly list of Sunday morning bus riders, keeps track of the weekly bus drivers and welcome center helpers....and LOTS MORE.

Even though she works here now, Tona is still a very active volunteer at the church. She works at the Concert Series events and St. Matthew events, she helps plan her Sunday School class activities for the Bible Boomers class, she helps in Good News Club and she is part of the funeral dinner ministry (her Arkansas green beans are always a hit).

Tona’s hobbies include playing golf with Chuck (and they are good too), watching her granddaughter Cassadi cheer through her senior year of high school, watching her grandson Chase play baseball and spending time with her youngest grandchildren Claire and Campbell. We are grateful to have this fun loving and vibrant lady on staff at St. Matthew, and she is grateful to be able to use her talents in service to the Lord.
