Do you remember what it was like to be in school? For many of you, that question is a double-edged sword. Some of you haven’t been a student for many years. You graduated from high school or college and went into your full-time work – whatever that might be. For others, you were in school only recently – and then our world was turned upside down by a global pandemic. Now, you study at a kitchen table instead of a desk; a living room instead of a classroom. Even if you are a “student” you probably don’t feel like you’re truly in school right now. I think that’s true of everybody.
Peter, James, and John probably felt just as lost as we feel right now. In the aftermath of Jesus’ Resurrection, their relationship with their Teacher changed in profound ways. They had been Jesus’ students – His disciples – but now their roles were transforming, evolving. These learners would very soon become Spirit-filled apostles who would take the gospel from Jerusalem to the very ends of the earth! (Acts 1:8) The church grew by leaps and bounds, and it wasn’t an accident that it did. It was part of Jesus’ curriculum for the kingdom of God on earth.
But of course, this didn’t happen overnight! In Ephesians 4:12, the Apostle Paul says that the saints
must be “equipped” for the work of ministry. In the same way educators train their students, Christ-followers must be trained for the work of ministry: growing in Christ, and going out to share the gospel with others.

This summer, St. Matthew is launching EQUIP UNIVERSITY to do just that. Starting in June, wewill provide weekly classes to teach you a practical skill you can use in order to bless others in your neighborhood and community. Whether it’s Woodworking with Brian, Cooking with Hank, Guitar Basics with Matt, or Baking with Rachel – you’ll be equipped with a new skill each week that you can use to be a blessing to a neighbor and reach them for thekingdom of God!

***Due to the present state of public health, we anticipate that these classes will be offered online viathe St. Matthew Facebook page rather than in-person. We are currently shifting plans to ensure this can happen. All the same, we hope you will make plans to join us each week this summer! There’s no telling how God can use you to further His kingdom!
