Connecting Opportunities

New Life Club Meetings

Meetings are held every month on the third Thursday at 12:00 noon in the Vine Cafe. No reservations are needed. Join in for great fun, food and fellowship. Over 100 people attend each month!   

 

New Life Club Choir

We have three dozen beautiful souls who love to sing the Gospel of Christ. We sing a forty-minute program at two nursing homes every first Thursday of the month. We love to sit and visit after we sing with the precious folks in the places we visit, as well as to fellowship with each other on the bus to and from and at lunch! If you want a stress free, rewarding ministry and can carry even a "slight" tune, please consider joining us. Meets every Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. in the Park Room for practice.

Senior Travel

St. Matthew UMC offers a day trip most months throughout the year as well as several longer trips each year. The following are the trips for 2020:

  • OmniMax at Science Center & Zia's on the Hill - February 13, 2020
  • "Noah" at Sight & Sound Theatre, Branson, MO - April 22-23, 2020
  • Patti's Settlement, Grand Rivers, KY - May 14, 2020
  • Fireside Dinner Theatre Ft. Atkinson Wisconsin Overnight - June 4 - 5, 2020

Our "2020 Senior Travels" are in the works. Details will be rolled out later in the year. Trips are always presented for sign up first at our New Life Club meetings the third Thursday.  All seniors are welcome!

February 13

OmniMax at Science Center & Zia's on the Hill
February 13, 2020 - Leave lower church parking lot at 10:15 a.m.

Join us for a visit to the newly renovated Omnimax Theatre featuring IMAX with laser. It is one of just four IMAX Dome with Laser theatres in the world. This state-of-the-art theatre provides the sharpest images, unmatched sound quality and greater color range than traditional theatres. This five-story, 80 foot-diameter dome will fill your entire field of vision, providing a truly immersive experience.

 

Our first show will be Volcanoes: The Fires of Creation - Discover molten worlds and explodng craters as we travel around the world to experience these lava lands of fire. Then we will see  Great Bear Rainforest as we journey to a land of grizzlies, wolves, sea otters, and the rarest bear on earth, the white spirit bear. This rainforest is one of the wildest places left on earth. Found on Canada's remote Pacific coast, it si the last intact temperate rainforest in the world.

 

Afterwards, we board the bus for a Valentine's lunch at Zia's on the Hill, included in your package. We have a choice of Spaghetti, Chicken Parmesan, Fettucinni, along with their famous dinner salad, bread, drink, and cannoli for dessert. After lunch, we have a visit to the Missouri Baking Company  for Valentine goodies for purchase. What a great mid-winter outing!

Noah Live on Stage at Sight & Sound Theatre, Branson, MO

The bus leaves at 8 a.m. to travel to Branson, MO. Lunch is on your own at Braum's in Nixa, MO as we travel. We will attend the 3:30 p.m. presentation of Noah at Sight & Sound as it has opened there a few weeks ago. This stunning production is full of wonderful, colorful costuming, stunning backdrops, beautiful music, live animals, surround sound boosting brilliant performances from a wrap-around stage and more. There is no better way to experience this beloved Bible story.

 

After this presentation, we proceed to Shorty Smalls for an excellect buffet dinner, included n your package.

 

After dinner, to round off a great day, we will attend the Pierce Arrow Gold show. It is a great family and musical show with their melodious quartet singing amazing gospel and patriotic music.

 

We will be lodging at the Grand Victorian Hotel for the evening. In the morning, we will enjoy a complimentary hot buffet breakfast at the hotel. We will spend some time at the Tanger Mall before heading home.

 

Around 1:30 p.m., we will have a huge buffet lunch at Hemmingway's Bass Pro in Springfield, MO, included in your package.

Patti's Settlement, Grand Rivers, KY

Patti's is finally open again with a totally new gorgeous building and facitilies after the fire a few years ago destroyed the entire restaurant. It's better than ever. We finally got through the reservation line to get this date. It took over 3 weeks fo calling to get this reservation, as everyone is excited to have this wonderful place open again. As well as the fabulous food, the shopping is evern better than it was as there are several great shops attached.

 

We will leave the lower church parking lot at 9 a.m. We have about 2 1/2 - 3 hour leisure spring drive with a stop along the way.

 

Our entree choices are your choice of their famous 2 inch porck chop with is the House Specialty; Don's Chicken (boneless breat charbroiled with special seasonings); Grilled Salmon Filet; 12 oz. Prime Rib Roast or Texas Steak (tender like prime rib with the taste of a smoky grilled ribeye). All entrees come with a baked potato, salad, homemade flower pot bread with whipped and strawberry butter and half a slice of either Bill's Boatsinker Pie (chocolate fudge with ice cream); Sawdust Pie (coconut, pecan, bananas and graham cracker crust) or Old Fashioned Butter Crumb Apple Pie (apples, brown suger, cinnamon, and caramel). YES, they have "carry out" boxes!

Yes, you can drive to Wisconson for a dinner theatre and back in less than two days. We will start loading the bus on the lower St. Matthew parking lot at 9:15 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, leave at 10 a.m. and travel to the Holiday Inn Express in Ft. Atkinson, WI where we will lodge for the evening. We will have dinner in the area around 6 p.m., on your own.

 

Friday, June 5 we will have a hot complimentary breakfast which starts at 6 a.m. at the hotel. We will be having a delicious gourmet lunch at the theatre and the show. We will leave the hotel around 10 a.m. After lunch and the show we will board our coach bus and return home. We must stop at a chesse house as well.

 

Fireside Dinner Theatre: This 2 acre entertainment complex is Wisconsin's #1 year-round motor-coach attraction. This 1000 seat restaurant serves elaborate, unique, and delicious meals. It has a 700 seat theatre-in-the-round with a state-of-the-art sound and lighting system for Broadway quality productions.
